St. John the Evangelist intentionally starts his story of Christ with the words: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” He thus differentiates his account from the three other Gospels by purposely pointing to the cosmic nature of Christ.
“Word” is the usual translation of the Greek word, “Logos” which St. John uses to describe the Christ. Yet the word “Logos” was also used in the spiritual and philosophical traditions of the Egyptians and the pre-Socratic Greeks. What does this indicate regarding the nature of Christ? How can a cosmic “Logos” become human? What would it mean if indeed the Logos created all things, including the universe itself? Can 21st century astrophysics itself shed light on this mystery? Can the new science of the evolution of consciousness and archeology also deepen the understanding of this statement by St. John? And if they can, how then would Christians need to interpret the words of Christ in the New Testament? And what would these words mean for the massive challenges that our modern global civilization and planet face?
Prepare to encounter ideas that scientifically grounded and yet are very little known to most people. A working knowledge of the science of The Evolution of Human Consciousness would help.
